While most of us start our day with the highest of expectations, sometimes things just don’t work out the way that we would like. Sometimes people disappoint us by not acting in a fair way, and sometimes we disappoint others by doing the same. Instead of letting go of that thing that bothers us most or asking for forgiveness, we have a tendency to ruminate over and over again, turning a small event into something that takes over a significant part of our lives. What we could have just discarded as inconsequential or a misunderstanding we hold on to, allowing it to become something so much bigger that it steals our serenity for a long time to come. Because each life moment is precious, we need to keep in mind the bigger picture. When we consciously accept things that are out of our control and let go of the result, even when things go wrong, we are free. Ruminating over something that has happened in the past is to be serious and uptight, and simply put, it is self-abuse. We can lighten up by focusing on the big picture; then all the ridiculous minutiae just fall away because we are no longer allowing ourselves to be deterred from the bigger plan that is our life.
