Back to Basics

How about this for inspiration about back to basics:

“There are two kinds of pride, both good and bad. ‘Good pride’ represents our dignity and self-respect. ‘Bad pride’ is the deadly sin of superiority that reeks of conceit and arrogance.”

John C. Maxwell

Be Proud

Having just finished my topical memoir on how grief impacted my life, I am proud that I set a goal and followed through. At first, the task at hand seemed overwhelming.  I had no earthly idea if or how I would survive the grieving process, forget about writing a full length book about it. Getting out of my own way was a huge undertaking for me. My anxiety-ridden mind went into panic mode most of time, it was hard to believe I would ever feel normal again. But, time and patience trusting my process with a never give up mindset proved to rule the day. When I decided to return back to basics, eight years later I have been able to heal at the broken places in a way that I could have never imagined back then.

Be True to What Works for You

So many good-intended individuals wanted to see me come out of the dark night of the soul sooner than later. They offered me remedies to peruse that worked for them, medication being one. While ordinarily I would have succumb to my “disease to please,” here I had to listen to my gut-tinnitus, a loud ringing in my head, had me listening more intently to what works . Back to basics, square one, to calm my nervous system to a place where I could begin again was a necessary start. And, a focus on self-care is a great place to embrace when life feels like it is going out of control.

Be Amazing

What self-care looks like to me may be very different than what it looks like to you. While some love to run to release stress, my go-to is dancing and spinning. Others focus on a particular diet, I thrive on moderation based upon a plant-based menu.  While some love to process their pain in certain ways, I use techniques like meditation, body-work, acupuncture, music and writing to embrace what is so I can allow what can be. Looking at what I have accomplished, I bask in the pride of the amazing person that I have become. Making choices that work for me, I am empowered to now become better than what I once believed.

And, having written my story, I hope that I inspire some of you to never give up, figure out your process so you can work through. One step at a time, one day at a time, and touching one amazing life at a time.
