Be the hero of your own journey!

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” W.B. Yeats

As a child and as an adult, I have been a huge fan of tales of mystery or fantasy.  I love reading these kind of books or watching these movies as the main character goes about solving riddles or collecting information that would help to unfold the next part of the adventure.  The mystery could not be solved or the kingdom could not be saved if the protagonist tried to take a short cut or bypass any of the “lessons” along the way. And, when they reach the end of that particular journey, they see the world through different eyes as that have learned so much about themselves and made connections along the way.  And when the mystery unfolds, the ordinary person has become a hero in his own story and the change is extraordinary.  The world is brighter, hope returns, and there is a new beginning as one part ends.  Life is like this.  We start many adventures only to learn something more, discover more, and gain the tools that we need to move forward confidently.  As a toddler starting school for the first time, we thrilled at learning our alphabet and numbers that would later allow us to grasp language.  As young adults going off to university, we broke ties to our families so that we could gain independent insight that allowed us to mature as we stepped into adulthood.    As parents handling the responsibility of caring for another life, we learn what unconditional love really is and sacrifice so that our children can thrive.  These are just a few examples as to how life experiences help us to change our perspective and see the world in different light. Each of these experiences sharpens the lens through which we take in life.  And with each discovery, we have the opportunity to enhance our abilities or our senses so that we can actually see the beauty that lies before us like never before. As T.S Eliot wisely shared, “We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”  This is really so profound because as we solve the mysteries in life we can actually step into the miraculous. When we learn the lessons that life provides for us, everything changes.  When we continue to explore our world on the inside and out, our vision is fine tuned.  When we grow and mature because we have faced our deepest fears, then the veil is lifted and we are able to see the magical things that have surrounded us all along.  Life is so magical and by wanting to take short cuts we do ourselves a disservice as we must go through the process to truly understand our purpose and direction.  Everything does happen for a reason- if only to open your eyes to solve more of the mystery of life. The world is full of magic things and will rejoice when you start to see what is right in front of you!  So step into  your own story filled with mystery and fantasy and be the hero in your own journey- it will be a magical one!
