Choose to feed the good!
“There is a battle of two wolves inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed , resentment, lies, inferiority and ego. The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, and truth. The wolf that wins? The one you feed.”
–Cherokee proverb
This is the ongoing battle in life- I prefer to call it a challenge. Each day when we wake, we have choices that lay before us. Each day we live, we have the freedom to make decisions in each of our connections with other people as to how we will react. And rest assured, how each person acts or reacts in their own little corner of the world has a direct impact on everyone else. So set your intentions well. If you want more joy in the world, feed your own joy by engaging in an activity that you are passionate about. If you want more peace in your world, take the time to be still and calm yourself. If you want more love in your world, be loving to others and extend yourself past your own comfort zone to convey that love surrounds us all. If you want more kindness in your world, reach out to others with gestures that show that you care about them. If you want the world to be hopeful for better times, prepare an action list setting forth positive goals to reach for. If you want humility in your world, be humble to the point of acknowledging any wrongdoing on your part and seeking forgiveness. If you want a world where people empathize with each other, when you recognize someone going through a hard time let them know that you are truly there for them. And, if you want a world based upon truth, be willing to be vulnerable enough to share your truth without fear. And be aware, it is just as easy to feed thoughts or feelings that bring with them heavy and negative connotations. You must ultimately decide where you will place your energy. I know there are times where difficult situations present themselves and you are conflicted as to how you will react. You may be too caught up in the drama and it would be too easy to let your ego get the best of you. Those are the times that you can detach from the situation with love, until there comes a point where the negative energy behind the emotion is diffused. During these times, focus inwardly on your own spirit and feed the good wolf that lies within. Most importantly, when there are times when we feed the negative, with awareness, we can stop and make the shift when we decide to forgive ourselves and slowly turn to what fills our spirit with joy once again. The shift is easy when you decide to be grateful for the awareness and are able to joyfully declare to the world five things that make you grateful for being alive this day! An attitude of gratitude starves the lesser wolf every time!
