Give love to your imagination and your future by reading a new book!

Meg’s Book Club introduces up and coming debut authors – one of my favorite things! For February introducing Suzanne Simonetti and Mary Camarillo.

The Sound of Wings

Suzanne Simonetti, Author

Author of The Sound of Wings. Her debut novel is upmarket women’s fiction published by She Writes Press May 4, 2021.

The Sound of Wings Seventy-year-old Goldie Sparrows faces declining finances, questionable health, and a late husband who torments her from the beyond. She seeks refuge in her butterfly garden, which is filled with voices and memories from long ago. Jocelyn Anderson is a struggling writer who finds escape from her custody battle in the journal of her late mother-in-law. As she gets pulled through the pages of time, Jocelyn discovers her own husband has a hidden history she knows nothing about. Is this secret now Jocelyn’s to keep?

Krystal Axelrod is living a life she never dreamed she could have. And yet the demons of a dysfunctional childhood and mean girl culture from her cheerleading days cast their shadow over her ability to feel whole, capable, and worthy. Does Goldie hold the key to Krystal’s path to freedom?

Inspiration I love to explore the ways in which people from different walks of life form bonds. I also think many of us carry haunts from our past that stay with us until we learn to face them.

Other Details The Sound of the Wings is available for pre-order now wherever books are sold and will be released on May 4, 2021.

The Lockhart Women

Mary Camarillo, Author

Author of The Lockhart Women; she lives in Huntington Beach, California with her husband who plays ukulele, and their terrorist cat Riley who has his own Instagram account. She is currently working on a second novel, told in linked stories about my neighborhood, post-Trump, pre-pandemic. My debut novel, “The Lockhart Women” will be published in June. It falls in the category of women’s fiction.

The Lockhart Women  Brenda Lockhart’s family is already living beyond its means when her husband announces he’s leaving them for a coworker at the post office, an older and (in Brenda’s judgmental opinion) much less attractive woman. He drops this bombshell on the night of O. J. Simpson’s slow-speed chase through Los Angeles. Devastated, Brenda sits down on the couch and gets hooked on the media frenzy surrounding the Simpson trials. She’s convinced OJ is innocent. Her two teenage daughters are busy making their own mistakes about lovers and crime.

Inspiration

She wanted to tell a story about people living working-class suburban lives in Southern California, far from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. She decided to frame the story around the Simpson murders and resulting trials for several reasons. The media frenzy was inescapable in those days. This was the birth of reality television and Kardashian fame. The trials also underscored domestic violence against women and race and class divisions in Southern California. The trials also offered a timeline and structure which, as a first-time novelist, she found very helpful. She was also interested in exploring mother/daughter/sister relationships from three different perspectives. Brenda, the mother, feels she’s missed out on life and regrets her choices. Her daughters are at their own critical points of decision.

Order Details

The Lockhart Women is available for preorder now. The publication date is June 1, 2021.
